PROJECT SUMMARY:

Utility Network Implementation for Water System

San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD)

San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD) conducted a pilot study for migrating to the ArcGIS Utility Network. A key driver for this project is that ArcMap is soon set to retire along with SBMWD’s current geometric network data format. DCSE performed a Utility Network pilot study for SBMWD’s water system.
Starting with a thorough QC, DCSE ensured that the pressure zones assigned were correct as this would play a role in Utility Network. DCSE filled the data gaps for essential attributes with help from SBMWD staff – primarily the asset types, asset groups, and lifecycle status. 3D is an essential component of the Utility network; DCSE assigned z-elevation values to features involved in the network.

The pilot had treatment facilities, and some asset types were added to the water asset package to accommodate these features. The data was then migrated to the Utility Network. The data was configured with elements such as assemblies, containers, and subnetworks. The directionality of flow was set at pump stations and pressure relief valves. DCSE then resolved the topology errors to develop a traceable utility network.

Finally, the Utility Network was published to the ArcGIS Enterprise with branch versioning enabled. DCSE also set up web apps to trace and edit the data on the web.

Following the pilot study, DCSE is assisting SBMWD with migrating the complete system, and deploying the enterprise to a cloud environment.
